OUR PROGRAM
Learn what it takes to become a true leader for the people in your community when you become a part of our collective programs.
The Leadership McAllen year starts in August with a Welcome Reception for the incoming class. September is a Class Retreat which traditionally is an overnight retreat that provides an overview of the program and gives the class members the opportunity to bond with each other before beginning the informational classes. Classes run from October through April with a graduation ceremony in May.
Due to COVID-19, we have modified our classes by allowing some to be virtual and following safety guidelines with social distancing for those that are met in-person.
The safety and well-being of our members will always be a priority.
The classes we provide are intentionally made up of diverse groups of individuals who may or may not normally be familiar with or affiliate with each other.
Class members will be able to:
- Learn about the full history of the city.
- Hear from current leaders about upcoming plans for the future.
- Get an inside glimpse about the several community organizations that support the arts, sciences, and environment that connect with the needs of our youth and adults of all ages.
- Expand their leadership skills.
Topics will include the following:
- Past, Present, and Future of McAllen.
- Government Affairs.
- Education.
- City Services.
- Health and Human Services.
- Arts, Culture, and Non-Profits.
- Economic Development.
